Kiskunmajsa Roman Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic Church consecrated for the honour of the Holy Virgin, built in late Baroque style is located at the town’s central square. Its predecessor was started to be built in 1743 out of sticks and mud, by the settlers of Tószeg. In 1761, a new church was built, yet out of solid material. Its current basic shape was reached in 1809, it is 50 meters long and 21 meters wide. The particularity of the church is that its main entrance is not situated under the 42 meter-long tower.

 

Regional House

The Regional House is one of Kiskunmajsa’s oldest architectural memories. The building with the thatched roof, consisting of three divisions, having a middle shouldering and a free chimney was built around 1850 and is the typical folk architectural sight of the Kiskunság Region.

During opening hours you can visit it with a guide. Folk crafts can also be demonstrated if wished so, just as folk musical instruments, folk music, dance show, folk games and bread baking.

Museum of 1956

On the road leading to Szeged, 4 km-s away from the town, the first and so far single 1956 museum in the country can be found, established by the legendary commander of the Corvin-köz, Gergely Pongrátz, out of his own private sources, in honour of the heroes of 1956. Original memorial objects, flags, pieces of fine art can be found here, the majority of which were donated by the former brothers-in-arms. The museum’s building used to serve as an educational institution. Facing the museum, a chapel has been built in the honour of all the victims of 1956.
